Osmond Tshuma is an award-winning Zimbabwean-born typographer, graphic designer, art director and curator specializing in African inspired themes. He is renowned for his critical engagement with colonial histories through design. His influence in the field of typography is evident through his creation of the typeface “Colonial Bastard Rhodes.” This typeface serves as a post-colonial critique of Cecil John Rhodes and the broader impact that colonialism had in southern Africa. Osmond Tshuma crafted a font that embodies a social commentary on the colonial era by analyzing and incorporating characteristics of fonts used during that period, such as exaggerated serifs and vertical stress.
Beyond his work in typography, Osmond Tshuma also co-founded the Mam’gobozi Design Factory, a South African creative studio dedicated to celebrating African identity through bold visual storytelling.
